Will joining the competitions help with my university applications?

How do I join a competition?

To join a competition, click the Register button, which will direct you to sign up for an AlgoEd account. Once your account is created, log in to access and join competitions. Be sure to complete the payment process, as your registration will not be finalized without it.

Are the competitions conducted online?

Yes, most competitions are conducted online. The preliminary round typically involves an online submission, which could be a test, essay, or pitch deck, depending on the competition. If there is a final round, it usually takes place live on Zoom with a panel of judges.

How competitive are the competitions?

The competitions are held on a global scale, attracting participants from over 20 countries across five continents, with hundreds of teams competing in each event. Despite the scale, there are no prerequisites to join—any student can participate. Country-specific awards are presented, and there’s no fixed percentage cutoff for honors and merit awards; as long as you meet the required score, your achievement will be recognized. Additionally, all participants receive a certificate of participation, ensuring everyone’s effort is celebrated.

If I don’t intend to apply to the university that organizes the event, should I still participate?

Absolutely! These competitions are open to all students, regardless of whether they plan to apply to the organizing school. They are designed for anyone passionate about the competition's academic area and offer a unique opportunity to develop your skills and grow in your area of interest. Participating will also help you stand out in any university application by showcasing your intellectual curiosity and achievements.

I’m in 6th grade. What is the value of joining these competitions?
