Competition Scholars Club (CSC)

The Competition Scholars Club (CSC) is a leadership program for students to promote academic competitions at their schools, building a global network.

Applying to be a CSC President

CSC Time Commitment

  • Expect 2-5 hours per week, depending on your involvement—e.g., planning events, hosting club meetings, joining meetings with other presidents around the world.
  • It's flexible: Delegate tasks to an executive team for lighter personal load, such as forming subcommittees for outreach or prep sessions.

CSC Requirements and Approval

  • Secure a faculty advisor and at least 5 interested students to form the chapter.
  • Follow social media guidelines: Instagram is encouraged for promotion; LinkedIn requires school approval.
  • Advertising: Use school emails, fairs, or proposals (reviewed in fall) to build awareness.

Starting CSC Mid-Year

  • Yes, you can start later in the school year without losing status—focus initially on recruiting and building connections.

Multiple CSC Leaders Per School

  • Typically one president per school, but co-presidents are possible if the current one agrees.
  • Alternatives: Join as an executive board member; contact support@algoed.co to connect with the existing president.

CSC Responsibilities

  • Establish and grow your chapter with AlgoEd's support materials.
  • Recruit an executive team to share duties.
  • Host info sessions, prep events, and awareness drives for competitions like Harvard Crimson Quiz Bowl.
  • Foster engagement to help peers access Ivy League mentorship and exclusive resources.

Overcoming CSC Obstacles

  • If facing challenges like exams or low engagement, email support@algoed.co for extensions or advice.
  • If unable to continue, notify support to step down gracefully without impacting your record.

Benefits

  • Gain a prestigious title, Ivy League mentorship, and a network spanning 80+ schools in 20+ countries.
