Eligibility & Age Groups

Do I need to be enrolled at a school to participate in a competition?

No. Homeschooled students are welcome to participate. Please email support@algoed.co if you need more information.

Which age group should I register for?

Your age group is determined by the grade or year you are in when the competition begins, not when you register.

If you will move up a grade before the competition starts, please register for the age group you will be in on the competition start date.

Can my team members be in different grades?

Yes. Team members may be in different grades or age groups. However, the team’s competition category will be determined by the highest grade level among all team members.

For example, a Grade 5 student and a Grade 6 student may be on the same team, but the team must compete in the Middle School category.

I'm in 12th grade. Can I still join?

Yes. You may participate as long as you have not started college before the competition begins.

Can I participate if I'm taking a gap year?

Yes. Please register based on the grade level you were in when the competition begins.

I'm in middle school now, but I'll be in high school when the competition starts. Can I still team up with my middle school classmates?

If you and your teammates will be attending different schools when the competition begins, please contact us to request an exception.

• Full names of all team members
• Registered email addresses of all team members
• Grade each team member will be in when the competition begins

We will review your request accordingly.
